A Guide to Kicking Off Summer in Port Washington This Weekend
This weekend, Port Washington officially rings in the summer season with its annual celebration of art at the lake, Blessing of the Fleet in the harbor, and loads of other events and music. Use this guide to help you join in the fun.
FRIDAY
If you're getting to town on Friday, you'll definitely want to arrive during Happy Hour!
Moonlight Tavern & Supper Club claims the "happiest hour" from 2 to 6 pm on Friday. In the historic Port Hotel, this popular downtown destination has $1 oysters, $8 small plates, and $5 cocktails, beer and wine.

Walk north along the Harbor Walk to Schooner Pub, Fork & Tap or Inventors Brewpub for marina-side patio dining. We promise you will feel transported to New England but without the salty breeze.
SATURDAY
Get ready for an art-filled day! Arrive early for the best parking spots downtown. Try for the street parking on Main Street, and you will be close to both Java Dock Cafe and Amplify Cafe for a morning coffee. Many shops on Franklin Street open at 10 am. Browse your way along Historic Franklin Street on your way to Port Festival of the Arts which kicks off at 11 am on Washington Street.
Your festival checklist:
- Dance to Latin and Caribbean rhythms at the Music Stage
- See the Chinese Lion dancing in the crowd
- Make your own art in the Family Art Zone -- free fun for the whole family!
- Stop to the chalk art when you arrive for the BEFORE and go back before you leave for the AFTER
- Get your free caricature by Ernie (thanks, Kleen Test Products!)
- Take part in the community weaving project -- look for the big loom
- Try a Big Baby Sub or giant pretzel from Ben's Pretzel

Take a break from the festival and walk one block to Pier Street to enjoy the pop-up immersive art experience Hygge at the Lake. Using lights, projectors, sound and lake imagery, you will feel the cozy inspiration of Lake Michigan. Then, head to Frankie's Ice Cream, the vintage Airstream on Pier and Franklin Streets for a cold treat and a unique donut painting art project.
Head back to the festival for more global acts, food and fun lasting until 5 pm. If you need a break indoors, just up Lake Street is the Frank Braun Legacy Art Auction at the American Legion. Find a new art piece from the personal collection of local artist and legend Frank Braun, as the community celebrates his life and art.
You'll be right across the street from the start of the Breakwater. If you want to walk off the street food, stretch your legs on the half-mile walk to the iconic Pierhead Light, where you can stand below the arches for a magical photo op and panoramic views.
To keep the artsy vibes going, drive about a mile outside of town to The Shipyard for a relaxed outdoor music venue where the popular Midlife Oasis will be playing 4-8 pm.
SUNDAY
You're in luck! Downtown Port's new initiative Sundays in Port is in full swing, making Sundays even more fun. You'll find later store hours, more restaurant options, fun pop-ups, live music, and family-fun activities at Heart of the Harbor.
